File Extension V64
File extension V64 is a ROM dump and it identifies the Nintento 64 Emulation ROM Image file. It is grouped in the category of game files and is known as a byte swapped ROM image. It is important to note that the N64 ROMs which are not byte swapped are usually identified with file extension Z64.

V64 files are images of the original Nintendo 64 ROM Cartridge. Data is saved into a V64 file by being "dumped" into the file from the Nintendo 64 Cartridge by use of Doctor V64, hence the ROM dump description. Doctor V64 can be simply referred to as V64. It is a development as well as backup device, which is made by Bung Enterprises Limited and is used together with the Nintendo 64.

Nintento 64 Emulation ROM image files have a standard file format and are supported by quite a number of programs. They are also well supported by both Macintosh and Windows Operating Systems and to open them, one will need an emulator from the N64 emulation software.

When using Mac OS, a V64 file extension can be opened and viewed using emulators such as N64emu, Mupen64, TrueReality and Sixtyforce. On the other hand when the Operating System is Windows, these files can be opened and viewed using emulators such as Project64, Nemu64, TR64, TrueReality, Daedalus and UltraHLE.
